This year we will be raising money for 2 charities that truly do wonderful work.
Heartburn Cancer UK
Heartburn Cancer UK was created by widow Mimi McCord who in 2002 lost her husband Michael who died from oesophageal cancer. Since founding the charity in 2002, Heartburn Cancer UK has continued to expand and raise awareness. The UK has the worst survival record in Europe and the developed world for oesophageal cancer and since the early 1970s, the oesophageal cancer rates in men have risen by 57% and 9% for women. Heartburn Cancer UK does incredibly important work by educating the public, they “intend to effect change and influence how this disease is perceived, detected, diagnosed and treated.”
Shepherds Bush Families Project and Children’s Centre
Our second charity is Shepherds Bush Families Project and Children’s Centre who do incredibly valuable work for the local community. The charity was set up in 1988 in response to the growing need for housing assistance in the borough of Hammersmith and Fulham and has been supporting families facing homelessness and various other unmet housing needs for 34 years. Through donations from the community and from their partners, they assist with providing clothing, homeware, toys, food and more! This is especially crucial in the current climate. Through providing a range of educational and recreational services and activities, the charity enables children and young people to flourish at home and school. Other services include, counselling for the individual and the family. They work with parents to meet their emotional and practical needs which in turn assists with their children's emotional and physical needs, thus reducing the risk of a family breakdown.
